Port Isaac's steep walk down to the harbour is exactly the kind of thing that earns a proper warm drink afterwards, and the village has a couple of genuinely good spots for it.
The Chapel, Port Isaac is a converted Methodist chapel turned café, genuinely excellent for a cream tea, with an eclectic, antique-filled interior that makes the whole stop feel like more than just a coffee break. Dog-friendly throughout too.
Cleaves Cafe Deli is tiny but well-loved, right on the seafront, with a well-curated deli counter alongside its coffee and hot chocolate — more a grab-and-perch spot than a sit-down, but worth it.
Port Isaac's steep, exposed streets mean the walk down to the harbour — and the walk back up — genuinely earns a proper reward, more so than in a flatter town where getting around takes less effort.
Both cafés work well either before you head down to the harbour, as a fortifying stop, or after, as the reward for the climb back up — worth deciding which suits your energy levels on the day.
Both venues take genuine care over the details — The Chapel's converted-church setting and Cleaves' well-curated deli counter both suggest a level of attention that extends to the drinks menu too, not just the food.
Given Port Isaac's compact size, either café works well as a bookend to time spent around the harbour — a warm-up before heading down, or a reward once you're back up top.
