St Ives does hot chocolate well across a few genuinely good spots, most of them tucked just off the busiest harbour stretch — worth seeking out rather than settling for the first café you pass.
Sea of Coffee is tucked just off the main street, dog-friendly, and does a proper Cornish cream tea alongside genuinely good hot drinks — small inside, so expect a short queue at weekends.
Pebbles Tea Room is genuinely welcoming, family-run, and known for its Sunday roast and milkshakes — the hot chocolate here comes with the same warm, accommodating service the venue's known for more broadly.
St Ives' busiest harbour cafés are built for volume and turnover, which isn't always where the best hot chocolate comes from — both Sea of Coffee and Pebbles Tea Room are smaller, more personal operations a short walk from the crush, and it shows in the quality.
Both get noticeably busier at traditional cream tea time — mid-afternoon — so a morning or early-evening visit tends to mean a shorter wait and a calmer stop.
St Ives has plenty of harbour-front cafés built for volume and quick turnover, and both Sea of Coffee and Pebbles Tea Room stand apart by taking the time to do it properly — real chocolate, properly steamed milk, and a genuinely warm welcome rather than a rushed transaction.
Given St Ives' compact, walkable layout, either café works well as a stop partway through a harbour wander — a good excuse to pause and warm up before continuing on to the galleries or the beaches beyond.
