How to Spend a Full Day in Padstow for £50 or Less

2026-06-05·Padstow

Padstow's reputation as a foodie destination can make it feel like an expensive day out by default, but a genuinely full, satisfying day here is entirely possible on a modest budget if you know where the free and low-cost options actually are.

The free morning: harbour and coast, no cost at all

Padstow Harbour itself costs nothing to wander, and it's genuinely the best part of the town regardless of budget — boats, shops, and the working heart of the place. From there, the walk out to Stepper Point along the South West Coast Path is free, dramatic, and takes roughly forty minutes each way, giving you a proper morning without spending a penny.

Padstow Museum — free, and worth the twenty minutes

A small, volunteer-run museum with genuinely charming local history, and it costs nothing to visit. Not a full morning on its own, but a good addition if the weather turns or you want a break from walking.

Lunch without the Rick Stein prices

A proper Cornish pasty from one of Padstow's bakeries typically runs £5-6, and eating it on a bench overlooking the harbour costs nothing extra — genuinely one of the best value meals in Cornwall given the setting you get for free alongside it.

One paid extra, if the budget allows

The National Lobster Hatchery costs a modest entry fee, roughly £8-10 for an adult, and is genuinely worth it if there's room in the budget — a hands-on, educational stop that works well after lunch.

A free beach to finish the day

Trevone Bay or Harlyn Beach, both a short walk or drive from the centre, cost nothing and give you a proper beach afternoon to round off the day without needing to pay for anything beyond parking, if you're driving.

Running the numbers

Harbour wander and Stepper Point walk: free. Padstow Museum: free. Lunch, a pasty each: roughly £5-6 per person. Lobster Hatchery, if you go: around £8-10 per person. Afternoon beach: free bar parking. For a family of four skipping the Lobster Hatchery, a full day genuinely comes in well under £50 total, even accounting for parking.
