Best Pubs in Porthleven: Harbour Views and Open Fires

2026-10-28·Porthleven

Short answer: The Ship Inn (4.7) is set into the cliff above the harbour with terraced gardens and a winter open fire, the Harbour Inn has rooms and a summer pizza bar, the Atlantic Inn is the five-minute climb for sea views and Sunday lunch, and the Halzephron at Gunwalloe is the clifftop inn.

Porthleven is a working harbour with a steep little town above it, and the pubs follow the hill: two at the harbour, one a short climb up, and the rest on the edge of town or along the coast.

Which pub has the best view?

The Ship Inn (4.7 from 1,738 Google reviews) is set into the cliff above the harbour, with terraced beer gardens, a big open fire in winter and very dog-friendly bars. Of the village pubs it's the best for a drink with a view. We use it as the finish to our Porthleven sunset guide.

Atlantic Inn (4.6 from 675 Google reviews) is worth the five-minute walk up the hill: a friendly, dog-friendly local with real ales, generous food, sea views and some of the best Sunday lunches in town.

Where can you stay or eat on the quay?

Harbour Inn (4.4 from 2,003 Google reviews) is a St Austell Brewery inn with rooms on the harbour: breakfasts, Sunday lunches, locally sourced fish and an outdoor pizza bar in summer. CAMRA lists it as family friendly, and our baby-friendly Porthleven guide mentions it as one of the pub meals that works with small children.

Where do locals go?

Out of the Blue (4.6 from 251 Google reviews) is a locals' bar with a campsite on the edge of town, pouring Spingo ales from Helston's Blue Anchor, with bingo nights and football on the big screen. It's dog-friendly but not aimed at children.

Is a clifftop pub worth the drive?

The Halzephron Inn (4.6 from 1,271 Google reviews) is a clifftop inn at Gunwalloe, about ten minutes south, with sea views, fresh fish and proper puddings. It's a good stop on the coast-path walk from Chyvarloe.
