Genuinely one of the more dramatic stretches of the whole path, connecting Tintagel to Bossiney and beyond along the clifftops. Free, dog-friendly, and arguably the best way to actually experience this stretch of coastline regardless of whether the castle itself is on the agenda.
Several of Tintagel's cafés and pubs are genuinely welcoming to dogs, not just technically tolerant. King Arthur's Café, near the castle car park, is dog-friendly and does excellent scones — a good stop whether or not you've been into the castle itself. The Olde Malthouse, a pub-with-rooms, extends its dog-friendly welcome even to breakfast, and The Cornish Bakery by the castle car park allows dogs inside, which isn't a given at every bakery.
If part of your group wants to do the castle and you've got a dog with you, the practical answer is usually splitting the day: one adult takes the castle while the other explores Tintagel Haven or walks the coast path with the dog, then meet for lunch somewhere dog-friendly afterwards. It's not a compromise so much as two genuinely good experiences happening in parallel rather than one being sacrificed for the other.
