Gyllyngvase Beach — Gylly — on Boxing Day is Falmouth's version of the festive swim: locals turning up from about 11am in dry robes and Santa hats, a loose charge into the sea when enough people have gathered, and coffee at the café after. There's no organiser, no registration and no lifeguard; it's the town doing it by habit. That makes it relaxed, and it also means the safety is yours to manage.

Gyllyngvase Beach Car Park is small and full by 10:30; Cliff Road fills after. Walk from town — it's fifteen minutes from the Moor — or park at Pendennis Point and walk along.
Gylly Beach Cafe is open Boxing Day and rammed by noon. The walk along the front to Swanpool Beach — ten minutes, flat — has a café too. Dogs welcome on the beach all winter.
