Falmouth Christmas Lights Switch-On: The Parade, the Moor at 7pm and Where to Eat After

2026-09-06·Falmouth

Short answer: A Thursday or Friday in the last week of November: live music and carols from late afternoon, a parade through town from Events Square, and the lights switched on at the Moor at 7pm. Free. Park at the top of town or use Ponsharden park-and-ride; the centre is packed.

This is one of our town-by-town winter guides — the full county picture is in Christmas and New Year in Cornwall 2026.

The evening

Falmouth's switch-on is one of the better-run in Cornwall: a parade with lanterns and bands that winds from Events Square Falmouth up through the main street to The Moor Falmouth, where schoolchildren sing carols and the town's lights go on at 7pm, with food stalls and music around the Moor. It's free, it's a proper community night, and the whole main street is closed to traffic so it works with small children as long as you're happy to be in a crowd.

2026 dates: not yet announced — has been the last Thursday or Friday of November in recent years. We update this line the moment organisers confirm.

Where to stand

For the parade, anywhere along Church Street or Arwenack Street gives a close view. For the switch-on, the Moor fills early — be there by 6:15pm for a spot near the front with children, or watch from the steps up towards the library for height.

Parking

Centre car parks are full by late afternoon. Ponsharden Park and Ride Falmouth is the sane option and runs into the evening on switch-on night; otherwise Dell Car Park Falmouth by the station and walk. The Maritime Museum car park is the first to fill.

Eat

Everything on Church Street is heaving after the switch-on. Book Harbour Lights Falmouth for fish and chips with kids or The Chain Locker for a pint on the quay, or walk ten minutes away from the centre to somewhere quieter. Our Falmouth guide has more.
