Boxing Day Walks in Cornwall With a Pub at the End

The Boxing Day walk has one purpose: fresh air, tired legs, and a pub. Here are twelve across the county with the honest details. Most pubs open Boxing Day lunchtimes; several close early or don't do food, so ring or check social media before you commit.

North

• Bude: Compass Point to Widemouth. 3 miles along the cliffs, high and windy, dogs off lead. Pub: Bay View Inn Widemouth. Not for pushchairs.
• Padstow: the Camel Trail to Wadebridge. 5 flat miles on the old railway, pushchairs and dogs perfect, bikes for hire if open. Pub: The Molesworth Arms Wadebridge; bus or walk back.
• Port Isaac to Port Gaverne. 15 minutes each way, steep bits. Pub: The Golden Lion Port Isaac. Port Isaac at Christmas.
• Tintagel: coast path to Bossiney. An hour and a half, the castle in view throughout. Pub: The Cornishman Inn Tintagel. Tintagel in winter.

West

• Godrevy to Gwithian along the Towans. Flat sand, seals at Godrevy, dogs everywhere. Pub: The Red River Inn Gwithian.
• Marazion to Penzance along the bay. 3 flat miles, pushchair-friendly, the Mount behind you. Pub: The Godolphin, Marazion at the start or the Dolphin in Penzance at the end.
• Kynance to Lizard Point. 2 miles of the best coast in Britain, empty in December. Café at the Point if open; pub: The Witchball Lizard.
• Loe Bar from Penrose (Helston). Flat estate tracks to the shingle bar, dogs off lead, buggies fine on the main track. Pub: The Blue Anchor Helston.

South and east

• Fowey: the Hall Walk. Bodinnick to Polruan via the creek, ferries at each end, 4 miles, some steps. Pub: The Lugger Inn Polruan or back in Fowey.
• Charlestown to Carlyon Bay. Short, easy, after the Boxing Day swim. Pub: The Rashleigh Arms Charlestown.
• Looe: the Banjo Pier and Hannafore. Flat along the front, dogs on the beach in winter. Pub: The Ship Inn Looe. Save the big night for New Year.
• Bodmin Moor: Golitha Falls from the car park. A mile through the woods, frosty and dramatic. Pub: The Crows Nest Inn.
