Short answer: Bodmin & Wenford is the big, traditional one — full-size steam, Santa moving through the carriages, sells out first. Launceston is smaller, easier to book and better for under-4s. Lappa Valley is a whole day of play with the train as the way in. All three go on sale in autumn; Bodmin's best slots go within weeks.

Narrow-gauge, a shorter run along the Kensey valley from Launceston Steam Railway, Santa, a present, a mince pie, and a much smaller crowd. Selected December weekends. Easier to get tickets and a better bet for under-4s who'd find the Bodmin carriages overwhelming. Launceston at Christmas.
Lappa Valley near Newquay is a play park with trains: the steam train takes you in, Father Christmas is in his grotto at the top with a present, and the rest of the day is soft play, the boating lake, the little railways and a fairground organ. 2026 dates: 28–29 November; 5, 6, 12 and 13 December; then daily 19–24 December. Prices: adults £19, children £22 (including the present), under-2s £10, dogs £6. The best value if you've got a wide age range, and less sell-out pressure than Bodmin.
