Christmas Lunch in Truro: Pubs and Restaurants Open on the Day

2026-09-07·Truro

Short answer: Truro's hotels — the Alverton, Mannings, the Royal — run Christmas Day lunches, plus a few pubs and restaurants in the city. Book by October for the hotels, November for the pubs. Easier parking and shorter waiting lists than any harbour town, and the cathedral's Christmas services are a short walk.

This is one of our town-by-town winter guides — the full county picture is in Christmas and New Year in Cornwall 2026.

Who opens

Truro has enough year-round trade that Christmas Day lunch exists: The Alverton Hotel Truro does the traditional big one, Mannings Hotel Truro in the centre, The Royal Hotel Truro, and several pubs on the edge of the city have served Christmas Day in recent years — The Old Ale House Truro and the country pubs at Kea and Tresillian among them. Each confirms in the autumn. In town, most restaurants close.

2026 dates: hotels and pubs confirm 2026 Christmas Day service from September; hotels full by late October, pubs by late November. We update this line the moment organisers confirm.

A Truro Christmas Day

  1. Morning service at Truro Cathedral — the Christmas Day Eucharist is open to everyone and the cathedral is at its best.
  2. Lunch at the hotel, two minutes' walk.
  3. A walk along the river at Malpas or through Boscawen Park to make room.

Prices

Hotel Christmas lunches in Truro run around £80–£120 a head, pubs less, children's prices standard. Deposits are normal.

Christmas Eve and Boxing Day

Christmas Eve is the city's busiest lunch of the year — book anywhere on Lemon Street by mid-November. Boxing Day: the hotels do a lunch; the Old Ale House opens; most of Lemon Quay's restaurants stay shut until the 27th.

Parking

Free in the council car parks on Christmas Day; back to normal charges on Boxing Day. Our Truro guide has the rest.
