Short answer: Use the car parks at the top of town and walk down — Fowey's streets are genuinely too narrow to be worth attempting. Central car park is closest; the walk back up is steep.
Fowey is a sailing town built on a hillside with streets that predate cars by several centuries.
The main car parks sit above the town, and walking down is the sensible approach. Attempting the narrow streets in a car is a well-known local frustration.
Genuinely steep. Factor it in if you're carrying shopping or have anyone in the group who'd struggle.
Down by the Bodinnick ferry slip, with parking and The Salty Dog café alongside. Useful if you're crossing on the ferry, and flatter ground than the town centre.
Small ferries cross to Polruan and Bodinnick for a modest fare. Worth knowing if your plan involves the other side of the estuary — driving round takes considerably longer.
Fowey fills with sailing visitors as well as tourists, and regatta week is exceptionally busy. Before 10am is the reliable window.
Fowey Royal Regatta in August transforms the town — parking becomes genuinely difficult and the streets are packed. Worth checking the dates if you'd rather visit quietly, or embracing it if you wouldn't.
