Short answer: The ferries, the pubs and the walks run all year; the aquarium and some cafés close for winter, and a few places take a January break. Fowey empty is arguably Fowey at its best.
What stays open
- Both ferries. The Polruan foot ferry and the Bodinnick car ferry run year-round on shorter winter timetables — check the day's last crossing before you go over.
- The pubs. The Ship Inn in the square and the Fisherman's Arms in Golant are the reliable winter doors.
- The galleries. Fowey River Gallery and The Old Bank Gallery (with its café and free paints) trade through winter on reduced days.
- The walks. The Hall Walk, Readymoney Cove and the Gribbin Head daymark are open every day of the year and better without the summer crowds.
What closes or shrinks
- The aquarium on the quay is a seasonal attraction — expect it shut from autumn until Easter.
- Cafés and restaurants drop days from November, and a few close entirely for a January break. Weekends are safest; midweek in January, check first.
- Boat trips and hire are summer-only.
Why come anyway
