Short answer: The big-name restaurants stay open year-round and are far easier to book. Parking stops being a problem entirely. Some seasonal shops and boat trips close, and the Camel Trail is quieter and better for it.
Padstow in August is close to unbearable. Padstow in January is one of the more pleasant places in Cornwall, and most of what you'd actually come for is still running.
Padstow's reputation rests on its food, and the serious kitchens run through winter. The genuine advantage is that tables you'd never get in summer become bookable — sometimes at short notice.
The single biggest change. The car parks that fill by 9am in August have space all day in winter. It transforms the visit.
Open year-round and considerably better without the summer cycle traffic. Can be muddy after rain, so proper shoes rather than trainers.
Boat trips largely stop, some seasonal gift shops shut, and a few cafés reduce to weekends only. The harbour itself is still a working one.
Summer dog restrictions lift on most north-coast beaches out of season, which makes winter genuinely better for dog owners.
Winter opening in Cornwall changes at short notice. Social media is more current than most venue websites — a two-minute check beats a wasted drive.
