Best Sunday Roast in Liskeard: Where to Go and What to Ask

2026-09-07·Liskeard

Short answer: Rumours is the standout near Liskeard. Book ahead — Cornish pubs cook a set number of roasts and the good ones sell out by early afternoon, especially out of season.

Sunday lunch is the meal Cornish pubs do best, and it is genuinely the right thing to be eating here between October and March. Here is where to go near Liskeard, and — more usefully — what to ask before you book.

Where the roast is genuinely good

Rumours

A genuinely good-value bistro doing an excellent Sunday carvery with huge Yorkshire puddings — dog-friendly, and open daytimes only.

The Highwayman

A genuinely family-friendly pub in Dobwalls with a well-regarded Sunday carvery, big car park and a proper welcome for dogs — check ahead in very hot weather.

Halfway House

A genuinely well-run riverside pub with locally sourced food and staff who take allergies seriously — good gluten-free roast, indoor and outdoor seating.

Also worth a Sunday

The Crows Nest — A genuinely excellent moorland pub below Caradon Hill — the burgers get specific, repeated praise, and there is a real log fire and a proper welcome for dogs.

London Inn — A genuinely lovely village pub in St Neot with huge portions, fair prices and a proper welcome for dogs — one of the highest-rated pubs in the area.

Book it. Genuinely.

This is the one piece of advice that matters most. Cornish pubs are small, Sunday lunch is the busiest service of the week, and most kitchens cook a fixed number of roasts. When they're gone, they're gone — often by two o'clock.

Out of season this catches people out even more, not less. Fewer places serve roasts at all in winter, so demand concentrates on the ones that do.

What to ask when you book

Timing it right

The sweet spot for a Cornish Sunday roast is a 12:30 or 1pm booking. Earlier and the kitchen is still finding its rhythm; later and you risk the popular cuts having gone.

If you want a walk first, factor in that Cornish daylight is short from November onwards — a coast path walk and a 2pm roast works in June and doesn't in December.
