Short answer: For a date night in Padstow, book The Seafood Restaurant or Paul Ainsworth at No6 for a splurge, or Prawn on the Lawn on Duke Street for seafood small plates. Then walk to 17 Duke Street for local gin, or the Golden Lion for a pub nightcap. Book ahead and check winter hours.
Padstow has a lot of serious restaurants packed into a few streets, and the lanes behind the harbour (Duke Street, Middle Street, Lanadwell Street) are where a date night in Padstow is won or lost. The harbour gets the photos, but the smaller rooms are where the table for two is. Here is how to build an evening around three different budgets.
It ranges widely, and it pays to decide first. Roughly, this is how the options stack up, using each venue's listing or Google price level:
Rick Stein's flagship has been open since 1975 and holds 4.5 from 2,312 Google reviews. Its own site lists lunch from noon to 2.30pm and dinner from 5pm to 9pm, a three-course set lunch at £40, an à la carte and a signature menu, plus a Seafood Bar that keeps seats back for walk-ins (guests at the bar must be 18 or over). Reviewers praise clams, lobster risotto and fish on the bone, and most also say it is expensive. Dogs have two bookable tables in the conservatory, which can be reserved up to seven days ahead. Ring on 01841 532700 to book.
4.8 from 861 Google reviews and a Google price level of four out of four. Reviewers describe a tasting menu, personalised menus and a visit to the kitchen or pastry section, and one says they were sent off with a goody bag. Allergies are handled well if you say so at booking, which for a restaurant like this you should do months ahead for weekends.
Prawn on the Lawn at 11 Duke Street is a compact seafood bar with counter dining, blackboard small plates and whole fish to share. It is listed in the 2026 Michelin Guide UK as an inspectors' favourite, scores 4.7 from 575 Google reviews, and the oysters reviewers mention come from Porthilly across the water. Michelin lists it open Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 10pm, and bookings go through the restaurant itself on 07926 128148, not a platform. Tables are a little cramped, say a couple of reviewers. Ring ahead if you want to bring a dog, as its policy is not published.
If you have a car and a designated driver, Barnaby's at Trevibban Mill (4.6 from 224 Google reviews) is the sister venue, a few miles inland at a working vineyard. Michelin lists modern cooking with Middle Eastern influences, and opening Thursday evening, Friday and Saturday all day and Sunday until 5pm, closed Monday to Wednesday. It takes bookings on the same number, and it is worth asking about parking and dogs when you ring.
For something looser, Rick Stein's Cafe on Middle Street (4.4 from 986 Google reviews) cooks Pondicherry curry, salt and pepper prawns and fish with a Pan-Asian slant. One reviewer notes a two-hour table window, so arrive on time.
17 Duke Street is the bar and shop of Padstow Distilling, which makes gin, vodka and rum from Cornish barley and botanicals including Alexanders foraged from the estuary cliffs. It scores 4.9 from 65 Google reviews, so a small sample, but reviewers consistently mention the knowledgeable staff and the brownies. Opening hours are not published on the Visit Cornwall page, so ring on 01841 531213 before you go. A few doors along, Padstow Tasting Room (4.7 from 236) does beer and cider flights and local sparkling wine.
Ruby's Bar on Broad Street (4.4 from 119 Google reviews) is the cocktail bar, with table service and dogs welcome, though reviewers warn that drinks are made fresh and take time. Pw1 bar nearby on Broad Street (4.8 from 72) is a smaller coffee-and-cocktail room.
The Golden Lion on Lanadwell Street (4.7 from 677 Google reviews) is the reviewers' pick for fish pie and garlic bread, and the pub is separate from its restaurant, which helps. The Harbour Inn on Strand Street (4.5 from 1,318) is dog-friendly, with crab sandwiches and fish of the day, and is closer to the water. Our guide to dog-friendly pubs in Padstow covers more.
Walk the quay while the light holds. Our best sunset spots in Padstow guide covers where to stand, and the Padstow in winter guide covers which shops and boat trips are shut. The Christmas Fayre is listed for 3 to 6 December 2026, with details in our Christmas Fayre guide. Expect the town to be much busier that weekend.
Rick Stein's site lists four pay-and-display car parks (harbour, South Quay, Link Road and the Lawns). Our Padstow parking guide has prices and timing. Nobody wants to drive after wine, so plan a taxi back from the vineyard at Barnaby's. The Padstow town page and the neighbouring Wadebridge page have more. If you would rather stay lower-key, our guide to lunch in Padstow without a booking shows the walk-in options. For a quieter coast further north, see our date night in Bude guide.
For a splurge, Paul Ainsworth at No6 (4.8 from 861 Google reviews) or Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant (4.5 from 2,312). For something smaller, Prawn on the Lawn on Duke Street is listed in the 2026 Michelin Guide UK.
Yes for the main restaurants, especially at weekends. Prawn on the Lawn and Barnaby's take bookings directly on 07926 128148. The Seafood Restaurant keeps seats at its Seafood Bar for walk-ins.
Michelin lists Thursday evening, Friday and Saturday all day and Sunday until 5pm, closed Monday to Wednesday. Confirm before you drive, as vineyard venues change hours.
The Seafood Restaurant has two dog-friendly tables in the conservatory, bookable up to seven days ahead. Reviewers say The Harbour Inn and Ruby's Bar welcome dogs. Ring other places before you book.
Try 17 Duke Street for local gin, Padstow Tasting Room for beer flights, Ruby's Bar for cocktails or the Golden Lion for a pub atmosphere. Check closing times, as winter hours are shorter.
Rick Stein's site lists four pay-and-display car parks: harbour, South Quay, Link Road and the Lawns. Ask Barnaby's about parking when you book.
