Short answer: Start at Angarrack near Hayle as it gets dark (park in Hayle, walk in), drive to Marazion for the Mount and the town lights, then Newlyn for a look at the harbour, and finish with Mousehole — parking at Newlyn and walking the coast road, never driving into Mousehole. West Cornwall's Christmas lights are close enough to string into one evening if you do them in the right order and park in the right places. This is the route, from the A30 end, with the two hard rules: don't drive into Angarrack and don't drive into Mousehole.
2026 dates: Angarrack and Mousehole switch on in the first and second weeks of December respectively and run to New Year; Marazion's lights go on in early December. Confirmed on each village's pages. We update this line the moment organisers confirm.
Come off the A30 at Loggans Moor and park in Hayle — Hayle Railway Station or the footpath from the Loggans roundabout — and walk into Angarrack as the light goes. The Twelve Days of Christmas along the lanes, the viaduct lit, forty minutes to see it all. Full guide.
Fifteen minutes' drive. Park at the Folleyfield Long Stay Car Park or the seafront, walk to the Square for the town lights, and stand on the beach for the Mount lit against the dark. Twenty minutes. The Godolphin, Marazion if you need a warm-up. Marazion at Christmas.
Through Penzance along the prom — the seafront lit — to Newlyn Harbour. Park here: the Newlyn Harbour Car Park or the road above the harbour. Newlyn's own lights are modest; it's the parking base for the last stop.
Walk the coast road from Newlyn — 25 minutes, pavement all the way, the bay to your left — into Mousehole Harbour with the lights across the water, the whale, the ship, the pudding. Do the harbour loop, get a drink at the Ship Inn Mousehole if you can get in, walk back. On a busy December evening the walk is faster than the queue of cars, and the village asks you not to drive in. Full guide.
Two and a half to three hours all in. Torches, warm layers, a flask, a carrier for small children — the walk into Mousehole is the longest stretch. Weeknights are far quieter than weekends; the week before Christmas is the busiest of all.
If it's 21 December, Penzance's Montol festival is happening between stops 2 and 3. If it's Tom Bawcock's Eve, 23 December, Mousehole is at its most crowded and most itself.
