Where to Watch the Sunset in Perranporth

Short answer: Perranporth's beach faces straight out to the west — the sunset pint at The Watering Hole on the sand is the classic, with Alcatraz's balcony and the Summer House terrace above, and the St Agnes clifftops for the big panorama.

Why Perranporth wins at sunset

Three miles of west-facing sand with nothing between you and the Atlantic: when the sky does its thing, Perranporth has one of the best seats on the north coast. At low tide the wet sand turns into a mirror and doubles the whole show.

The spots

• The Watering Hole — the pub actually on the beach, and the classic sunset pint in Cornwall. Outside tables on the sand; arrive early on a fine evening.
• Alcatraz Bar & Café — the balcony café with sea views; outside seats go early, and it's one of the best vantage points in the village.
• Summer House — beach views and cocktails (and notably good hot chocolate for the chilly evenings), with a dog-friendly terrace looking straight out.
• The St Agnes clifftops — the free, dramatic version: mining ruins silhouetted against the sky. Proper shoes, and a torch for the walk back.
• Chapel Rock on the sand — at low tide, the rock and its pool make the photographer's foreground.

Timing it: sunset falls around 7pm in mid-September, drifts towards 6pm through October, then jumps to around 4:45pm when the clocks go back on Sunday 25 October. Arrive twenty minutes early — the colour often peaks just after the sun has gone.

Before the sunset
