Short answer: Cotehele's famous Christmas garland, hung in the Great Hall for its 70th year, is on display from 21 November 2026 to 5 January 2027, 10:30am to 4pm (closed 25 and 26 December). Entry is £11 for adults, £5.50 for children or £27.50 for a family; National Trust members go free. You can watch the garland being built from 9 to 19 November.
Cotehele, a Tudor house above the Tamar near Calstock, has hung a huge garland of dried flowers in its Great Hall every Christmas for 70 years. Tens of thousands of flowers, grown in the gardens through the year, are threaded onto a single rope. It's one of the most beautiful things in Cornwall in December, and far fewer people make the trip than should.
The build is worth seeing in itself: the gardeners and volunteers work in the Hall, and you can watch the garland grow day by day.
Walk down through the woods to Cotehele Quay on the river, and on to the mill (open 11am to 3:30pm). It's a proper winter walk, with tea at the end.
Cotehele is at Cotehele, St Dominick, Saltash, down narrow lanes off the A390; follow the brown signs rather than the satnav. It's 25 minutes from Liskeard.
