Short answer: Fistral's beach complex and Lusty Glaze are the two genuine on-the-beach lunches; book ahead for window tables in season, or go just before noon and take your chances.
The view is the point
Newquay's beaches are the town's whole argument, so lunch that faces away from them is a wasted slot. The good news: this is one of the few Cornish towns where several kitchens sit genuinely on the sand, not just near it.
On the beach itself
- The Fish House at Fistral — in the beach complex with the surf framed in the glass; the seafood-led sit-down version of the view.
- SeaSpray — the relaxed tier of the same complex; when the weather's kind, outside tables put you closer to the sand than anywhere else in town.
- Lusty Glaze — the privately-run cove with its restaurant down in the amphitheatre of cliffs. The most dramatic lunch setting in Newquay; remember the climb back up the steps is the price of it, and check winter opening before making the trip.
Above the beaches
The headland and clifftop tier trades sand-underfoot for the wider panorama — terraces above Fistral and the town beaches where the view is the whole bay rather than one break. In a stiff onshore wind, elevated-and-behind-glass comfortably beats on-the-sand.
Landing the view table
- In season, book — and ask for the window or terrace specifically; a beach restaurant with your back to the beach defeats the purpose.
- No booking? Arrive before noon. The view tables turn over from about half twelve and the queue inherits them.
- Check the tide. High tide at Towan and the harbour puts the water right below you; low tide at Fistral is maximum beach and surf. Either is good — but a quick tide check decides which view you're buying.
