Short answer: Mevagissey has no beach in the harbour itself. The closest is Polstreath, down about 180 steep steps. For families, Gorran Haven (three miles south, sheltered and sandy) or Pentewan (two miles north, long and flat, privately owned). Portmellon, a mile south, has a pub on the beach. Vault Beach, below Dodman Point, is the wild, empty one.
A small, sheltered sandy beach by a little quay, with clear water, ice cream and a chip shop close by. Dogs allowed all year on leads; no lifeguards. Pay car park up the hill. Gorran Haven Beach
A little sandy cove a mile south along the coast path, with the Rising Sun Inn right behind it. Dogs banned 10am–6pm in July and August. Portmellon Beach
A big flat sandy beach two miles north with a play park on the sand. It belongs to Pentewan Sands holiday park, so park in the village, and dogs are restricted for much of the year. Pentewan Beach
Below the cliffs on the north side of the village, down about 180 steps (some of them metal and steep). Secluded and lovely, but not for small children or anyone unsteady. Polstreath Beach, Mevagissey
A long unspoilt beach below Dodman Point, reached by a steep 15-minute path from a National Trust donation car park. No facilities; room even in August. Vault Beach, Gorran
