Dog-Friendly Mevagissey: Pubs, Cafés and Beaches

Short answer: Mevagissey is good with a dog. The Lighthouse Café, J's Café and the Harbour Tavern welcome dogs, as does the Ship Inn at Pentewan. Gorran Haven beach allows dogs all year (on leads), Portmellon bans them only 10am–6pm in July and August, and Vault Beach is dog-friendly all year. Heligan welcomes dogs on leads, and dogs travel free on the summer ferry to Fowey.

• The Lighthouse Café, Market Square: breakfasts, cakes and cream teas, dogs welcome.
• J's Café, Fore Street: cream teas, with dogs welcome inside.
• The Loft Hatch: outdoor tables on the corner of the harbour, so dogs are fine.

Dog-friendly pubs

• Harbour Tavern, Jetty Street: lively, with food and live music.
• The Ship Inn, Pentewan: at the end of the valley trail, with very big portions.
• The Rising Sun, Portmellon: on the beach, a mile along the coast path. Ask when you arrive.

Which beaches allow dogs near Mevagissey?

• Gorran Haven: dogs allowed all year, on leads.
• Portmellon: no dogs 10am–6pm in July and August; fine the rest of the year.
• Vault and Hemmick: dogs allowed all year.
• Pentewan: privately owned, and dogs are restricted for much of the year, so check first.

Days out with a dog

Heligan welcomes dogs on short leads (dogs at Heligan), the Pentewan Valley Trail is great for walks (Pentewan Valley Cycle Hire even rents dog trailers), and in summer dogs travel free on the ferry to Fowey.
