Is There a Beach in Mousehole? Harbour Sand and Rock Pool

2026-10-15·Mousehole

Short answer: Yes. At low tide Mousehole harbour drains to two small sandy beaches inside the quays, popular with families, and a long pebble beach runs east towards Penlee Point. There's no lifeguard. On The Parade, the Mousehole Rock Pool is a tidal sea pool for paddling and cold-water swims, clear but not deep enough for proper lengths.

Mousehole doesn't look like it has a beach when the tide is in. Wait a few hours.

Where is the beach in Mousehole?

Inside the harbour. At low tide it drains to two small sandy beaches inside the quays, where families dig and paddle. A long pebble beach runs east from the village towards Penlee Point. Check tide times: at high tide the sand disappears.

Is it safe to swim?

There's no lifeguard. Experienced cold-water swimmers sometimes swim out to St Clement's Isle, about a kilometre or more offshore, where seals are often seen. That's a serious swim, not a paddle.

The Mousehole Rock Pool

The Mousehole Rock Pool is a tidal sea pool by The Parade at the east end of the village, used for wild swimming and paddling. Reviewers say it's clear but cold and too shallow for proper lengths. The Rock Pool Café overlooks it for a hot drink afterwards.

Can dogs go on Mousehole beach?

The council bans dogs 1 July to 31 August, 10am–6pm, but some local guides say the harbour beach is dog-free all year. Follow the signs. Dog-friendly Mousehole.

In winter

Timber baulks are lowered across the harbour mouth in winter to protect the boats; in 2026 they go back in on Thursday 29 October (weather permitting).
