Short answer: Armistice Day is Wednesday 11 November 2026, with the two-minute silence at 11am. Most Cornish towns hold a short gathering at the war memorial from about 10.45am to 10.50am, including Truro (Boscawen Street), Penzance (Penlee Park Memorial Gardens from 10.45am), St Ives, Bude (the Triangle) and Bodmin (Shire Hall).
Armistice Day marks the end of the First World War on 11 November 1918. In 2026 it falls on a Wednesday, three days after Remembrance Sunday (8 November), so most towns hold a short, simple gathering at the war memorial and not a parade. These are quick, quiet events, often under half an hour, and anyone can attend.
How to read this page. Where a council had published its 2026 programme when we looked, we say so. Where it had not, we give the 2025 programme and label it as a guide, because Legion branches and councils usually repeat the pattern but do change start times and routes. Confirm with the organiser the week before you travel.
Where we write "2025 pattern", the council had not published a 2026 timetable when we looked on 3 November. Times and places are usually repeated but not guaranteed.
At 11am a two-minute silence is observed nationally. In a town centre, traffic and shops often pause, so if you are driving through a town at 10.55am, expect the street to be still. A bugler may sound the Last Post, and a wreath is usually laid by the Mayor and the Royal British Legion. It is simple and respectful, and you do not need to dress up.
Armistice Day is a normal working day, so car parks are charging and town centres are busy with commuters. Arrive 15 minutes early, park on the edge and walk in. Our parking guides for Truro, Penzance and St Ives help you plan.
Many towns share the silence on their council's social media pages, and the Falmouth service was broadcast on local radio and streamed in 2025. A silence observed at your own desk or at home counts just as much.
