St Austell Remembrance Sunday 2026: Afternoon Parade

2026-11-03·St Austell

Short answer: Remembrance Sunday is 8 November 2026. St Austell holds an afternoon parade: in 2025 it started at 2.15pm from St John's Methodist Church, went along Fore Street to wreath laying outside Holy Trinity Church and a service, then marched back along Fore Street to White River Place at about 4.15pm. We have not seen the 2026 timetable yet.

How to read this page. Where a council had published its 2026 programme when we looked, we say so. Where it had not, we give the 2025 programme and label it as a guide, because Legion branches and councils usually repeat the pattern but do change start times and routes. Confirm with the organiser the week before you travel.

Why St Austell's parade is different

Most Cornish towns hold their parade at about 10.30am, so the silence falls during it. St Austell, like Truro, holds its main parade in the afternoon, which catches visitors out. If you arrive at 10.30am expecting a parade you will miss it.

The 2025 programme (the guide for 2026)

That programme is from the Cornish press listings for 2025. Remembrance Sunday 2026 is 8 November, and Armistice Day is Wednesday 11 November. Confirm the 2026 start with St Austell Town Council or the local Royal British Legion branch before you travel, since the church or the route can change.

What to expect if it is your first Remembrance parade

A Remembrance parade is a walking procession of veterans, cadets, Legion branches and civic leaders, usually led by a band or a standard-bearer, ending at the war memorial. It is not a spectacle, and the mood is quiet. Stand on the pavement, keep conversation low during the silence and take your hat off if you wear one. Children are welcome: explain beforehand that there will be two minutes of quiet. Take a waterproof, because the services are outdoors, and carry coins for the poppy sellers, who take cards in some places but not all. If you need a seat or step-free access, ring the town council before the day and ask where a viewing space is possible.

Parking

The parade assembles beside the Priory Road car park, which will be busy, and Fore Street closes for the march. Our St Austell parking guide lists the other car parks. Because it is a Sunday afternoon the town centre is quiet beforehand, so arriving by 1.45pm is realistic.

Making a day of it

The afternoon timing means lunch first. St Austell Sunday roasts covers the options and St Austell pubs the warm-up afterwards. If you want a walk beforehand, the beaches near St Austell are a short drive, and winter parking is cheap. The St Austell town page has the rest.
