Remembrance Sunday 2026 in Cornwall: Parade Times

2026-10-21·Penzance

Short answer: Remembrance Sunday is Sunday 8 November 2026, with Armistice Day on Wednesday 11 November. Penzance's parade forms at 10.15am at St John's Hall, sets off at 10.35am and the service at Battery Rocks war memorial is at 10.55am. Most other towns hold 10.30am to 11am services, but Truro and St Austell hold main parades in the afternoon.

Remembrance Sunday falls on Sunday 8 November 2026, with Armistice Day on Wednesday 11 November. Almost every Cornish town holds a parade and a wreath-laying, but the times vary a lot, and some are in the afternoon. Here is what is confirmed for 2026, and what the towns did in 2025 so you know roughly what to expect.

When is Remembrance Sunday 2026 in Cornwall?

Sunday 8 November 2026. The two-minute silence is observed at 11am. Armistice Day is Wednesday 11 November, with a short silence at 11am in most towns. Many places also hold a smaller service on that day for anyone who cannot get to the Sunday parade.

Penzance Remembrance Sunday 2026: parade, service and road closures

Penzance Town Council has published its 2026 plan, and it is the most complete we have found. These are the times from the council:

The closed streets are Alverton Street, The Greenmarket, Market Place, Chapel Street, Under Chapel Yard and Battery Road (from the Under Chapel Yard junction to the war memorial). If you are driving in, use a car park well away from that line. Our Penzance parking guide covers the options.

On Armistice Day, Wednesday 11 November, people gather in the Memorial Gardens at Penlee Park from 10.45am for a short service led by Rev Derath Durkin, then the silence at 11am.

Remembrance Sunday in Truro

Truro Town Council lists a series of Remembrance events for 2026 but had not published the timetable in the pages we could read. In 2025 the pattern was an Act of Remembrance at the war memorial on Boscawen Street at 11am, a wreath-laying and military parade from 2.30pm that paused for a salute by the Lord-Lieutenant and went on to High Cross, then a service at Truro Cathedral at 3.15pm. A Poppy Appeal launch and a blessing of the Garden of Remembrance at the cathedral came in the two weeks before. Treat that as a likely shape for 2026, not a promise. The Truro town guide has the rest of the day.

Other Cornish towns: what they did in 2025

We could not find 2026 timetables for these towns. The times below are from 2025 and are a guide only. Councils and branches of the Royal British Legion usually repeat the pattern, but start times and routes do change, especially when there are roadworks or a new organiser.

Note that St Austell, Truro and Callington hold their main parades in the afternoon, which catches visitors out.

Tips for watching a Remembrance parade

If you are planning the rest of the month, our November 2026 what's on guide lists every confirmed date, and the Bonfire Night guide covers the weekend before.

Where do you park for the Penzance Remembrance Sunday parade?

The closures cover the town centre streets listed above, so aim for a car park outside that line and arrive before the rolling closure starts at 10.30am. Two options worth knowing about:

If you come by train, Penzance station is in the same part of town as the harbour car park, so you can leave the car at home. Penzance Town Council has not published parking advice for the parade itself, so this is our own guidance rather than an official plan. If you need to leave straight after the service, remember that the rolling road closures run until 10.50am, so allow some extra minutes. Our Penzance parking guide covers the other car parks.

Can you take children, dogs or a wheelchair to a Remembrance parade?

Yes to children, and most towns welcome them. Parades are outdoors, you stand on the pavement, and the two-minute silence at 11am is the point where small children find it hardest. A quick explanation beforehand helps, and so does choosing a spot at the edge of the crowd where you can step back if needed. A snack in your pocket is worth it, as the build-up is long and standing time adds up.

Dogs: none of the councils we looked at publish a rule either way. Dogs on a short lead are common, but a barking dog during the silence upsets people, so go only if yours is calm in crowds.

Wheelchairs and pushchairs: we have not found any access information from Penzance Town Council, Truro City Council or the Royal British Legion branches for 2026. The routes use ordinary town streets with pavements and kerbs, so the pavements next to the war memorial are likely to be busy. If access matters, ring the town council before you go and ask where a viewing space can be reserved. Some towns, such as Bodmin and Wadebridge in 2025, followed the war memorial service with a service at the parish church, which may be easier with limited mobility.

What should you wear, and where can you eat after the Penzance service?

The Penzance service is held outside at Battery Rocks, on the seafront, where it can be windy and wet in November. Wear a waterproof coat and warm shoes, and consider a hat and gloves, since you may stand still for 20 minutes or more. We have not found a published wet-weather plan for Penzance, so assume the parade goes ahead in the rain and follow the town council's social pages for any change.

After the service, Penzance Royal British Legion serves refreshments at its Bread Street clubhouse, and everyone is welcome. If you would rather sit down in a pub:

Expect both to be busy straight after the service. Booking ahead for a late-morning table, as suggested above, is wise. Our Penzance town page has more places to eat.
