Short answer: Bodmin's Christmas lights switch-on is listed for Friday 27 November 2026 at 6.30pm, marked to be confirmed. Past years have a procession to Mount Folly, choirs, a market in Priory Park, a fairground and late-night shopping, run by the volunteer Bodmin Christmas Lights Committee. In 2024 activities ran from 4pm to 8pm.
Bodmin's Christmas lights switch-on is listed for Friday 27 November 2026 at 6.30pm, though the date is marked as to be confirmed. It is a volunteer-run event that fills the town centre from Mount Folly to Priory Park with a procession, choirs, markets and a fairground. Here is how it has worked in recent years, so you can plan around it.
A 2026 round-up of Cornish switch-on dates lists Bodmin for 27 November at 6.30pm, marked TBC. Newquay, Looe and Mevagissey are listed for the same evening, so the town sits in a busy Friday. We did not find a 2026 notice from Bodmin Town Council or the organising committee, so check their pages closer to the date.
The most detailed programme we found is from 2024, when the switch-on was on Friday 29 November. It gives a good picture of the format:
There was also a food and drink market on Mount Folly, a Christmas market in Priory Park, a fairground and late-night shopping, plus stilt walkers and an elf hunt for children. In 2025, the event grew into a weekend, with a parade, market and choirs, and a "vast crowd" stretching from Mount Folly into Priory Park. Young people from Equally Abled switched on the lights that year. Expect the same sort of mix in 2026, but treat the times as a guide.
The event is run by the Bodmin Christmas Lights Committee, a volunteer group, with Bodmin Town Council, intoBodmin, the Lions, Rotary and other local groups. Because it relies on volunteers, details can come late, so look for an announcement in the weeks before.
The 2024 coverage mentions traffic management on the road between Mount Folly and Priory Park, but does not give road closures or parking advice. We have not seen 2026 closures. Arrive early and expect the central car parks to fill. Priory Park has a play area, rated 4.3 from 75 Google reviews, and it is close to the town centre. A walk in from the edge of town is easier than hunting for a space at 6pm.
If you come back during the day, the flat walks near Bodmin are a gentle way to clear the head, and the Bodmin rainy day guide has indoor options. Earlier in the month, the town does fireworks, covered in our Bodmin fireworks guide. Later in the season the Santa trains at Bodmin run, and the December what's on guide lists what comes next. The Bodmin town page has more.
Bodmin Town Council owns two car parks either side of the action. A 2023 Post article on their charges is the most recent source we found, so treat the details as a guide and read the signs.
Priory Car Park (PL31 2WU) has 4.2 from 118 Google reviews. It sits beside Priory Park, so it is the closest to the play area, the pond and the market. The 2023 article said charging ran Monday to Saturday, 9am to 4pm, so a Friday evening switch-on is outside charged hours. If you arrive for the 4pm activities, check whether you need a ticket. Reviewers mention the play area, toilets nearby and plenty of disabled bays, and the machine takes cash, card or the RingGo app.
Berrycombe Road Car Park (PL31 2NS), opposite Bodmin Jail, has 3.2 from 55 Google reviews. Several reviewers complain about the ANPR enforcement and confusing signs, and say payment is by card or app only. One reviewer puts it at a 5 to 10 minute walk to Bodmin Jail, so it is further out than Priory, and there are no toilets. If you use it, pay for the full time, keep your receipt and do not rely on memory of the tariff.
Our Bodmin rainy day guide has indoor options for the daytime if you arrive early.
It suits children well, but it gets crowded. The 2024 programme included an elf hunt, stilt walkers, a fairground and Santa in his sleigh outside Boots at 5pm. In 2025 a "vast crowd" filled the route from Mount Folly into Priory Park, according to the Cornish Times.
The organisers have not published 2026 arrangements for children, so check the Bodmin Town Council and committee pages in November.
Bodmin's pubs fill during the procession, so decide early. Both these are a short walk from Mount Folly, and Google opening times can change on event nights.
Pubs along the route fill from late afternoon, since the 2024 programme had Santa at 5pm and the procession at 6.15pm. We could not confirm whether either takes bookings, so phone ahead if you are a group. The Bodmin town page lists more places to eat.

In 2024 the procession started at 6.15pm from the top of town to Mount Folly, with the lights on at 6.30pm. 2026 times are not yet confirmed.

Entry to the town centre events has been free in past coverage, but fairground rides and market purchases cost extra. Check for 2026 details.
Priory Car Park's charging hours in a 2023 article were Monday to Saturday, 9am to 4pm, so an evening switch-on falls outside them. Check the signs, because charges and operators change.
We have not seen a published rule. The streets are crowded and loud around the procession, so keep dogs on a short lead or leave them at home.
Google reviewers mention toilets next to the Priory car park and play area. Opening hours on the night are not confirmed.
Berrycoombe Road car park is opposite Bodmin Jail and uses ANPR with app or card payment, so pay carefully.
