Your Guide to Bodmin, Cornwall

Bodmin is one of Cornwall's oldest and most historically rich towns — an inland base that gives you a completely different side of the county. There's no town beach here, but Bodmin punches well above its weight: Bodmin Jail is one of Cornwall's most talked-about visitor attractions, the steam railway is a genuine family favourite, Lanhydrock is arguably the best National Trust house in the county, and Cardinham Woods is a brilliant free escape just five minutes from the centre. For beaches, Polzeath and the Camel Estuary are about 20 minutes north, and the south coast isn't much further. It's a proper base for doing Cornwall properly.

Listings last checked: July 2026. Note: Bodmin Keep (Cornwall's Army Museum) is currently temporarily closed for urgent building repairs — check their website before visiting.
