Short answer: The Storytellers by Luxmuralis is an immersive light and sound installation at Truro Cathedral from Monday 11 to Saturday 16 January 2027. Timed entry runs every 20 minutes from 4.30pm to 9.30pm. Adults £11, children aged 5 to 18 £8.50, family ticket £27. The 16 January listing showed as sold out, so check other nights.
Every January, Truro Cathedral is turned into a light show, and the nights sell out fast. In 2027 the artists Luxmuralis return for a third time with The Storytellers, which tells the history of storytelling in light and sound. Here is how it works and what it costs.
Luxmuralis is the collaboration between sculptor Peter Walker and composer David Harper. According to the cathedral's announcement, The Storytellers moves from ancient oral traditions to classics of world literature, including children's classics, fantasy, romance, poetry and legends. Each artwork is a chapter, with a soundscape running through the whole building. It is pitched at all ages. Luxmuralis' previous Truro shows, such as Time in January 2026, used the same format.
It runs from Monday 11 January to Saturday 16 January 2027, in the evening. On the cathedral shop listing, admission slots run every 20 minutes from 4.30pm to 9.30pm. The cathedral is open as usual in the daytime and is transformed after dark.
Tickets are sold through the cathedral shop, and your confirmation email is your ticket. When we looked, the Saturday 16 January listing was marked sold out. Other nights may still have slots, and returns appear, so check the shop. Do not rely on a ticket from a reseller.
The shop page gives about 40 minutes for the average visit, and the cathedral's announcement says the full show takes about 45 minutes to complete and that you can stay longer after you have entered. Plan for an hour including queueing and finding a spot to sit.
This is the cathedral's third Luxmuralis installation. The previous show, Time, ran from 12 to 17 January 2026, and the cathedral shop sold individual nights separately, which is how the 2027 listings work too. Because each night is a separate listing with a limited number of slots, the sensible approach is to choose your night first, then pick the slot, rather than waiting to see how the week goes.
Park in one of Truro's city car parks and walk, as the streets around the cathedral are narrow and busy in the evening. For food before an early slot, the Truro guide covers the city centre, and Lemon Quay is a short walk from the cathedral. If you are visiting in the same week, Hall for Cornwall is also nearby, and our Falmouth in winter guide is useful if you are staying on the south coast.
The pantomime season at the Hall for Cornwall runs to 3 January, so it will have finished before the show opens; see pantomimes in Cornwall 2026 if you want to combine a December visit instead. For other winter evening ideas, our light trails guide covers the outdoor options that end before January.
Truro Cathedral has 4.7 from 3,287 Google reviews, and one reviewer describes its candlelit evening events as having fantastic acoustics.
Mostly yes. The cathedral's ticket page says there is ramp access at the front of the building in High Cross and that nearly all areas can be reached by ramp. St Mary's aisle is the exception and cannot be reached by wheelchair. Stewards in hi-vis will help, and a wheelchair can be borrowed if you pre-book by emailing info@trurocathedral.org.uk.
The cathedral's accessibility page adds a hearing loop, with a portable loop available, and an accessible toilet near the Chapter House (the page description says near the restaurant, so ask a steward). Registered carers need no ticket.
What the cathedral has not said is also worth knowing. We could not find published answers on seating, flashing or strobe effects, photography or dogs. Because the installation is light and sound, ask about flashing lights before you book if you or someone in your group is sensitive. Contact info@trurocathedral.org.uk or phone 01872 276782. Our Truro with a buggy guide helps with pushchairs around the city, though the cathedral has not said whether buggies are allowed in during the show.
Slots run from 4.30pm to 9.30pm, so the daytime Truro Park and Ride is no help for most of them. Its Google listing shows closing at 8.30pm Monday to Saturday and closed on Sunday, so check the last bus times if you try it for an early slot. Truro Park and Ride is rated 4.6 from 613 Google reviews.
For the evening, central car parks are the practical choice:
Evening tariffs vary, so read the signs. Our Truro parking guide and Truro without a car guide have more.
Many Truro cafes shut in the afternoon, so a 4.30pm or 5pm slot calls for planning. Using Google opening hours, here is what is open when:
Because the show is about 40 to 45 minutes plus queuing, an evening slot from about 7pm leaves time for a proper meal afterwards. Book a table for the end of your slot rather than the start. For a longer evening, see Truro one evening properly planned.
Monday 11 to Saturday 16 January 2027, with timed entry every 20 minutes from 4.30pm to 9.30pm.
Adult £11, child (5 to 18) £8.50, family ticket (2 adults and up to 5 children) £27. Under-5s and registered carers are free.
About 40 to 45 minutes. You can stay longer once inside.
The 16 January listing showed as sold out when we checked. Look at the cathedral shop for other nights and returns.
The cathedral describes it as for all ages, with under-5s free. It is dark and sound-led, so judge it by how your child handles queues and low light.
Nearly all of Truro Cathedral is reachable by ramp, but St Mary's aisle is not. A wheelchair can be pre-booked by emailing info@trurocathedral.org.uk.
Yes. The cathedral's accessibility page lists a fixed hearing loop and a portable loop.
The cathedral has not published a dog policy for the show. Email info@trurocathedral.org.uk to ask.
We could not find one. Ask the cathedral on 01872 276782 if flashing lights are a concern.
