2026-10-28·Mevagissey

Short answer: The Ship Inn by the harbour (a 1600s pub with good fish pie, 4.5), the Fountain Inn (said to be the oldest pub in the village, 4.6) and the Harbour Tavern (live music, a separate fryer for gluten-free fish and chips) cover the village; the Rising Sun at Portmellon is the beach pub.

Mevagissey is a small fishing harbour, so its three main pubs are within a couple of minutes' walk of each other. Two more are a short walk or drive away, one on a beach and one in Pentewan.

Which pub is best by the harbour?

The Ship Inn (4.5 from 998 Google reviews) is a 1600s pub by the harbour with cosy nooks, good fish pie and live acoustic music some nights. It was recently taken on by new management, so recent reviews are the ones to trust. It's dog-friendly.

Harbour Tavern (4.5 from 1,258 Google reviews) on Jetty Street is lively and dog-friendly, with hot, hearty food and live music. Book online for dinner in summer. Reviewers praise its separate fryer for gluten-free fish and chips.

Where is the oldest pub?

The Fountain Inn (4.6 from 766 Google reviews) is said to be the oldest pub in the village: a 15th-century inn at the foot of Cliff Street, with big portions of pub fish and chips, St Austell ales and a famous elderly cat called Alfie. Our rainy-day guide suggests it for a long wet lunch.

Is there a pub on a beach?

The Rising Sun Inn at Portmellon (4.4 from 381 Google reviews) is a refurbished pub right on the beach, about half a mile south on the coast path. It serves Cornish small plates, oysters, good fish and chips and Sunday roasts with sea views, and is dog-friendly. It's also on our beaches near Mevagissey guide.

What about after a bike ride?

The Ship Inn at Pentewan (4.5 from 1,480 Google reviews) is a busy, dog-friendly village pub at the end of the valley trail about 1.5 miles away, with very generous portions, smash burgers and a good low-alcohol range.
