St Agnes Rainy Day: Things to Do When It's Wet

2026-10-15·St Agnes

Short answer: On a wet day in St Agnes, start at the free St Agnes Museum on Penwinnick Road (mining, surfing, wartime and a preserved leatherback turtle; check winter opening). Then drive 3 miles to Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm at Penhallow (free entry, paid tours, tastings, restaurant), and finish by the fire at the St Agnes Hotel or the Driftwood Spars.

St Agnes is an outdoor village, but rain here can be dramatic rather than miserable. Here's how to fill a wet day.

St Agnes Museum

A free, volunteer-run museum on Penwinnick Road covering mining, the sea, surfing and wartime. Highlights include a preserved leatherback turtle and a VR recreation of the lost harbour, and reviewers praise the kids' activity sheet. Google lists it as open daily 10:30am–4:30pm; check before making a special trip in winter (01872 552301).

Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm

A working cider farm at Penhallow, about 3 miles east. Free entry, with paid guided tours, tastings, farm animals and a restaurant (reviewers rate the cream teas). Open daily, 9am–6pm on Google's listing.

Blue Hills Tin Streams

Cornwall's last tin stream works, in Trevellas Coombe, where tin is crushed by water-powered stamps and smelted. It's seasonal (April to October), so it's an option only at the start or end of the season. Check hours first.

Watch the weather from inside

Verdant Schooners sits right above Trevaunance Cove with big windows onto the sea (closed Monday–Tuesday). In a big swell, it's one of the best seats on the coast.

Further afield

Redruth has a cinema, a roller rink and Kresen Kernow: Redruth rainy day. Perranporth is 3 miles north: rainy-day pubs in Perranporth.
